| ELIZABETHAN STYLE CARVED OAK DINING TABLE a |
    ||
The
          table legs feature hand-carved gadrooned lower 'cup' sections under
          stylized leaf 'covers' (cup and cover) with square section Ionic capitals.
          The applied gadrooned carved rails have stylized leaf centres and corners.
          The top is 2" thick and made from 3 planks with cleated ends. The
          spaces between the planks have been filled with thin oak strips, suggesting
          'earlier shrinkage'. Note the remaining tenons of the 'removed' long
          stretchers on the rear legs. The paired centre stretchers would have
          been a 'later' modification to satisfy modern preferences for sliding
          chairs under.   |
