REPLICA FURNITURE |
A PAIR OF HANDMADE OAK JOINED AND CARVED STOOLS, STYLED FROM THE PERIOD OF JAMES 1. The very best wooden stools were carved. They would have been made in sets, usually of six, although many wealthy households would often possess twenty or more stools of varying types and styles. During the sixteenth and early part of the seventeenth century, this was the normal mode of seating for all but the master and, possibly, the mistress. Sets are extremely rare today and original pairs are normally valued at three times a single stool. |
