Made from air dried European oak, these gates measure nearly 3.5 metres wide x 2 metres high (approx 11.25 x 6.75 feet). They are 75mm (3 inches) thick. All the components were planed by hand and although labour intensive, the subtle 'hand-made' look so created is visually very pleasing on the eye. The panels and framework have been designed and put together in a special way so as not to trap rainwater. Note the personnel door set in the right hand gate. The huge wrought iron hinges wrap around both sides of the gates and swivel on pintles which bolt right through the brick piers. They can be shimmed to correct any later wear or movement.
